Romans 14:19

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Romans 14:19

Paul urges pursuing things that promote peace and mutual edification. The “things which make for peace” are acts and attitudes that build concord rather than fuel conflict, while “things whereby one may edify another” focuses on constructive words and deeds. The culture of Rome, with diverse believers, required a disciplined approach to fellowship. The pastoral aim is to cultivate a community where peacemaking and encouragement are the natural mode of life in Christ.

This verse centers the community’s welfare as a spiritual discipline. Peacemaking is not optional; it is a tangible expression of Christlike living. Edification aligns with the broader biblical ethic of mutual upbuilding and spiritual growth through love.

Actively seek opportunities to promote peace in conversations, resolve conflicts, and encourage others. If you notice tension, initiate reconciliation rather than fueling the dispute. Offer words that build up and offer practical support to those in need.
