Revelation 21:6

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Revelation 21:6

This verse continues the throne’s declaration: “It is done.” The phrase signals completion of God’s redemptive plan—salvation history achieved in Christ and fulfilled in the new creation. The speaker then pronounces Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, identifying Him with God’s eternal, comprehensive sovereign rule. The invitation to the thirsty to drink freely from the fountain of life underscores the gracious accessibility of salvation, extended to all who hunger and seek. The imagery of the fountain emphasizes abundant, unearned grace—God’s provision in the Messiah, offered without cost to those who respond in faith. The verse ties the end to the present: the fountain is available now, yet its fullness awaits the eschaton.

Theological anchors: God’s sovereignty, Christology, and grace. Jesus as Alpha and Omega reveals the divine identity of Jesus and the unity of the Trinity in salvation. The universal invitation to the thirsty underscores the open invitation of the gospel to all peoples. The fountain of life points to eternal life and the Spirit’s ongoing work in sustaining believers.

Living with this truth means recognizing that God’s plan is complete and that life in the Spirit is an ongoing experience of access to divine grace. Practical steps include relying on Christ daily, practicing spiritual disciplines that sustain thirst for God, and sharing the gospel generously. It also means stewarding freedom in Christ, avoiding legalism, and ministering to others with the same grace we’ve received. The call to drink freely invites generosity and hospitality—making room at the table for those who thirst.
