The phrase emphasizes conformity—leaders align their strength to sustain the beast’s authority rather than pursuing common goods. The unity is not inherent goodness; it’s a counterfeit solidarity that empowers rebellion against the Lamb.

Unity in the biblical sense matters. Here, collective alignment is directed toward oppression rather than justice. The verse warns that when societies coalesce around anti-God agendas, shared power becomes dangerous—yet it remains under God’s sovereignty and bound to find its telos in divine judgment. The longing for consensus should be filtered through discernment: are we uniting for life and truth, or for domination?
