Matthew 21:25

The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

Matthew 21:25

Jesus poses a question about John the Baptist’s baptism: was it from heaven or from men? The leaders’ dilemma reveals their inconsistent stance—they fear the people more than they fear God. Their speculative answer shows their reluctance to commit to truth due to fear of consequences.

This verse highlights the test of truth through obedience. If they acknowledged divine origin, they would have believed John’s message; to deny it would alienate the people. It shows the danger of political calculation over spiritual truth.

Be wary of compromising truth for popularity or fear of people. Seek truth honestly, even when it costs you acceptance. Let the Word of God guide decisions, not fear of social repercussions.
