John 17:10

And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

John 17:10

This verse unites the Father and Son in a shared possession: “All mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.” The mutual ownership expresses intimate union and shared mission. The disciples belong to both the Father and the Son, underlining their identity and purpose within the divine plan. The phrase “I am glorified in them” signals that the disciples’ obedience and faithful witness bring glory to Jesus and, by extension, to the Father. The Johannine emphasis on unity and mutual indwelling is central here: the Son’s glory is displayed through the life of the community of believers who embody Jesus’ teaching and mission.

The verse anchors the doctrine of union with Christ and the believer’s participation in Jesus’ mission. It expresses an overlapping ownership that safeguards the integrity of the gospel: God’s ownership, Jesus’ ownership, and the disciples’ responsibility to reflect that ownership. The unity implied foreshadows the oneness Jesus prays for in John 17:11 and the transformative effect of belonging to God on the world’s perception of Jesus.

We can live with the awareness that we belong to God and Jesus through faith. Practical steps: cultivate a daily rhythm that reflects Jesus’ values—humility, love, truth-telling, and service—to reflect that ownership well. In community, resist individualism; pursue unity that honors the Father and the Son. When facing division or temptation, remember your identity in this shared ownership and choose actions that deepen unity and reflect God’s glory.
