John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

John 14:23

Jesus reiterates the condition of love: if someone loves me, they will keep my words. The Father’s love, and the Son’s accompanying presence, come to the one who keeps Jesus’ words, resulting in divine abode with the believer. This verse moves from promise to practice, linking love, obedience, and divine presence. The concept of “abode” (mone) evokes a home-like, constant, intimate presence.

Highlights the Trinity’s work in intimate dwelling: Father, Son, and Spirit together come to dwell with the believer, a hallmark of the New Covenant. It reframes salvation as communal and relational.

Practical steps:

- Ask: where am I resisting Jesus’ words? Bring those areas to prayer and repentance.

- Create space for God’s presence in daily life (mealtime prayers, morning/bedtime rhythm).
