Faith in Christ grants adoption into God’s family; in the Roman–Galatian world, this universal family is radical: Jew and Gentile, slave and free, male and female—all equally granted access to God as children through belief in the crucified and risen Jesus. The verse presupposes the believer’s union with Christ; through faith, believers are connected to Christ’s life and identity, receiving the Spirit as the guarantee of their inheritance.
