Exodus 12:23

For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

Exodus 12:23

This verse explains the mechanism of divine deliverance: when the LORD sees the blood, He passes over the house and the “destroyer” will not come in. It clarifies the moral and cosmic order—an act of judgment halted by obedience and faith. The phrase “pass over” becomes a powerful metaphor for God’s protection of His people when they trust Him and align themselves with His provision.

The Passover event reveals God’s dual role as judge and savior. It also anticipates the gospel: judgment is real, but there is refuge in obedience and faith in God’s provision. The imagery of blood and protection invites readers to see salvation as both deliverance from danger and reconciliation with God.

Reflect on what “the blood” and “passing over” mean in your life. Seek protection through faith, prayer, and obedience. Build rhythms of confession and dependence on God so you recognize His deliverance in daily life, especially during trials.
