Deuteronomy 3:24

O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

Deuteronomy 3:24

This final verse presents Moses’ bold, theological doxology. He declares that God has begun to reveal His greatness and mighty acts to his servant. The language acknowledges God’s incomparable power and invites the contrast: who is like the Lord in heaven or on earth? This moment frames all earlier events as mere foretaste of God’s surpassing greatness. It expresses a deep longing to see more of God’s glory given the time before he dies or transitions leadership to Joshua. The verse also shows an intimate, relational dimension: Moses is not just a distant observer but a recipient of God’s self-revelation, speaking with reverence and awe.

Theologically, this is praise and petition converging: the speaker recognizes God’s uniqueness and power, and yet longs to know and experience more of God’s works. It anchors faith in the recognition that God’s acts are ongoing, not merely historical. It sets a cadence of worship and humility: even the most faithful leader acknowledges God as the source of power and greatness.

Contemporary readers can imitate Moses by cultivating a posture of worship mixed with desire for deeper encounter with God. Practical steps: (1) Regular, heartfelt praise for God’s character and mighty deeds. (2) Personal and corporate prayer that seeks deeper revelation of who God is. (3) Spiritual disciplines that sustain attentiveness to God’s voice: scripture, worship, and reflection. (4) Encourage others to adopt a posture of awe and gratitude. The verse invites a living faith that continually seeks to know God more deeply.
