Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

Daniel’s simple response, “O king, live for ever,” is courteous and respectful, even in danger. It marks a transition from human anxiety to a posture of honor toward the king. Daniel’s reply preserves dignity, diffuses hostility, and keeps doors open for the king’s acknowledgment of divine power.
