2 Corinthians 10:15
Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
2 Corinthians 10:15
In this verse, Paul returns to the theme of measurement and boastful ambition, but with a hopeful twist. He says, “Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly.” The Corinthians’ increasing faith would allow Paul to see more fruit within the boundaries of his established ministry, leading to broader impact “according to our rule abundantly.” This suggests a dynamic relationship between the spiritual growth of a community and the expansion of a leader’s scope within the God-given measure. Paul expresses patient confidence that as the believers mature, the Lord may broaden the ministry—still under divine distribution. It’s a measured optimism grounded in stewardship and dependence on God’s timing.
Theologically, this passage emphasizes the sanctified link between faith maturity and ministry expansion. Growth in faith justifies expansion, but not by human boastfulness; it’s a gracious, Spirit-led enlargement. It also highlights the accountability of leaders: to steward their “rule” responsibly, awaiting God’s timing for broadened influence. The emphasis on “our measure” remains a reminder that God assigns responsibilities and that success is assessed by fidelity to the calling and spiritual fruit, not by outward expansion alone.
For today, it encourages patient, faithful leadership and faith communities that anticipate growth without forcing it. If your group is seeing increased faith, it’s appropriate to pray for greater opportunities to disciple, plant, or serve; do so within the established framework of your gifts and boundaries. Avoid the temptation to boast in numbers or to use others’ labor as a springboard for self-promotion. Celebrate growth in others and support collectively the expansion of the gospel in ways that align with your “measure.” Personal example: if you’re 새 small group leader, invest deeply in your group’s spiritual formation; only then may God enlarge your ministry among more people, in his timing.
